Hearth Cooking
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to cook without a microwave or oven? Many pioneer meals were prepared at the hearth of an open fireplace. Head on out to the Log House at Shawnee Prairie Preserve (4267 St. Rt. 502 West) to learn about hearth cooking on Saturday, February 4th at 1:00pm. Warm yourself by the fire as you will be taught how the pioneers prepared their foods. At the hearthside cooking, you will not only taste some sweet and delicious dishes but you will also be put to work for some hands-on learning on exactly how pioneer women prepared their food. Pre-Registration is required for this event, so call the Nature Center at 937.548.0165. The fee for this program is $5 per person.
