According to the article, a major announcement is planned for tomorrow (Friday) at the plant. While they do not offer specifics of what the announcement is about, they do note that Governor Kasich is planned to be in attendance, which could be an "indicator of major new jobs at the plant."
The Wall Street Journal, however, is reporting specifics:
The Benton Harbor, Mich., company will spend $40 million to expand the plant to 460,000 square feet from 260,000 square feet to keep up with growing demand for mixers and other items, Dave Elliott, general manager of Whirlpool's KitchenAid small appliances business, said in an interview. Employment at the plant is expected to rise to about 1,400 in 2018 from 1,000 now, he said.It sounds like the formal announcement will be made tomorrow, but 400 new jobs and such a heavy financial investment in the location (and thus in the community) will be greeted with wide open arms.
