MVCTC Teachers Receive Ohio Master Teacher Recognition

Miami Valley Career Technology Center is proud to announce that eight (8) instructors have successfully completed their Master Teacher portfolios. Clayton, Ohio – The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) is proud to announce that over the last five years, 33 instructors have been recognized as State of Ohio Master Teachers. The three teachers to receive this distinction for 2014 are:

  • Mrs. Gwen Bergman, Math Instructor
  • Mrs. Debbie Carter, Social Studies Instructor at Youth Connections
  • Mr. Todd Engel, Science Instructor at Youth Connections

The following five instructors renewed their Master Teacher for 2015-2020:

  • Mrs. Diana Carlisle, English Instructor
  • Mrs. Jessica Knisley, Science Instructor
  • Mrs. Tammi Newbourn, Hospitality Services Instructor
  • Ms. Roberta Phillips, Sports Marketing Instructor
  • Mrs. Brenda Wheat, Math Instructor

In order to be eligible for the Master Teacher designation, educators must hold a valid professional license or certificate, have taught a minimum of seven years, and show evidence of each of the following criteria as described in the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession (http://esb.ode.state.oh.us ). Master Teachers will achieve exemplary scores in four of five areas on the scoring guide, including consistent leadership, focused collaboration, distinguished teaching - focus on students and environment, distinguished teaching - focus on content, instruction and assessment, and continued professional growth.

The Ohio Department of Education describes the Master Teacher program as, “a way to recognize and honor teachers who go above and beyond district expectations. It creates a resource of teacher leaders to advance the profession and encourages high quality teachers to remain in the classroom.”
